Kayu Manis Cafe & Gallery

This might not be the first time I went to this cafe but it is my first visit after a couple of years (and that's the truth folks). The cafe is pretty popular amongst the 'kaki lepak' crowd in Tawau so the place is normally packed with people (hence me avoiding it like hell). But when we went by them recently, it seems that the lunch crowd has died out so we decided to finally give it a go. The decor was very interesting, what with a few traditional artsy pieces here and there but I'm not too sure why they also called themselves a gallery though (maybe there's more art pieces upstairs?). I'm also interested in their seating area, as they also provide 'bersila' seating on the upper floors of the premise.

Foodwise, the place is known for some pretty tasty munchies and light snacks such as the usual (fried lekor, fried fritters, the infamous 'pisang cheese'... to name a few). But what I highly recommend was for you guys to also try out their on-the-menu dishes. We tried out their Nasi Ayam Penyet and Nasi Lalap and they were both delicious in taste (both with succulent chickens and very tasty sambals). I've also notice that they have Nasi Arab within their menu, a rare dish served in a restaurant here in Tawau (you usually need to order such dishes buffet style) and it's something that I'll probably try in my next visit.

** Current status - Still in operation (as of August 2015)
