In an unlikely twist of fate, I had to fly to KK recently
due to an urgent personal matter and ended up somewhat stranded (thankfully for
1 day only) at the KKIA because my Airasia return flight got cancelled (without
any prior notice no less) due to the sudden implementation of the movement restriction order. Hence, I had to extend my hotel stay and thankfully the hotel that
I’ve stayed in was pretty accommodating and understanding to my plight.
Since I’d actually arrived at KK a few days before the order
began, me and my partner did managed to go around town a bit to do some foodie
reviews here and there (which you will see later on) as well as some during
said order period. But before all that, let me comment a bit about our
aforementioned accommodation…
At the beginning, this several months old hotel has a very good momentum going
on right before the Covid 19 outbreak began to spread widely so their room rates
were somewhat on the higher side. We initially picked out (and
paid in full a non-refundable price via Agoda) their cheapest room which was
the Standard Twin Room without Window. All was fine and dandy until I found out
much later that their rates had dropped tremendously right after it was announced
that foreign tourists were barred from entering Sabah .
So I felt very annoyed checking into the hotel but was pleasantly surprised to
discovered that the management had probably took notice of the rate that I’ve
(over)paid and gave us a better room with windows instead. Granted,
you could barely see the view from said window since there were these bars
obstructing our full view but still it was a very considerate thing for them to
do. The room that we were assigned to were modern and still squeaky
clean; with new and super hard bed mattresses & pillows (my type of bedding preferences). They also provide those classy looking refillable & sealed drinking water
bottles (similar to that of Hotel Sixty3) for their guests which I personally loved. Their bathroom and shower
were equally new and clean but for some reason I had a problem
adjusting their water temperature level (as the water goes from very hot to very
cold only). Also, I was a bit disappointed that such a swanky looking hotel
only has the basic myFreeview TV channels (so no Astro channels at all
folks). But still, the hotel is still one of my top choices in KK mainly due to
its location; as they’re literally on the 7th floor of the Suria
Sabah shopping mall. There might be other lifts (or elevators) accessible to
the floor but I do recommend you guys to use the lifts nearest to the McDonalds
on the side entrance to said mall; as it will bring you straight to their lobby
area. Also, you do not have to worry about the security level of the hotel as the hotel has their own internal lifts for guests to use (as they
occupied most of the 5th to 9th floor).
Another good thing about the hotel (well, at least at the time that we were
there) was that they also provide free parking for all of their guests (with
some specific but easy instructions for you to follow first before your free
fare can be implemented). Hopefully the hotel can maintain its friendly and satisfying
service as they have a very good potential to succeed in the future.
All in all…
Type – Superior
Twin Room
Room – 5/5 (a
very new, clean and secure place to stay)
Price – 4/5 (very
affordable especially during their current ongoing promo rates)
Service – 5/5 (all
of the staff were very friendly and all smiles all the time)
Décor – 4/5 (very
modern and err... whitish indeed)
Facilities – 4/5
(they have their own internal lifts as well as free parkings)
Location – 5/5 (again,
they’re literally on top of the Suria Sabah shopping mall so it can’t possibly
get any better than that)
*FYI the room with its lights on (that is visible right below the Suria Sabah signage) was where our room were...
*The open door on the right is where the main lifts are located (the ones that are accessible near the McDonalds on the ground floor) and the spot where I was standing (while taking the pic) is where the parkings were...
*The open door on the right leads to their internal lifts (where most of the rooms are)...
... and yes, this is the previously mentioned obstruct view from our window
