Online Chocolate Treats Special (MCO Edition)

So I was looking through my collection of past foodie pictures and I noticed that I haven’t post about my somewhat ‘unusual activity’ during the previously long MCO months. See, since we can’t actually go out freely during those months, I was ‘snacks-deprived’ and had develop a craving for choco related munchies. So I have ‘no choice’ but to order various choco cookies and other products through food delivery services (such as GrabFood, FoodPanda) and even Shopee just to satisfy my severe sweet tooth at that time. So below are (ahem) ‘some’ of the things that I’ve tasted throughout those months. And looking back now, I think I’ve managed to produce an impressive chocolate ‘inventory’…

CRIME BITES CHOCOLATE CHUNK & ROCHE COOKIES

Bought the item(s) from/through: Shopee

Personal ratings: * * * *  ½

Usually I’m not really interested in products put out by local celebrities. But when a colleage of mine was literally raving about this Uqasha Senrose & Kamal Adli cookies, it piqued my interest. And I must say that among all of the other choco ‘celup’ cookies that I’ve tried, theirs are by far the most decadent and high quality tasting. Sure, it is still pretty sweet but it was more of the choco kind of sweet rather than sugarly sweet, which was nice.

BITE-BITE BY DEEGREEPASTRY BROWNIES

Bought the item(s) from/through: Shopee

Personal ratings: * *  ½

All I could remember about this brownie product was that it was the ‘potong kaki’ type of sweet. It took me almost 2 weeks to finally be able to finished off the brownies and that is not normal for someone who can polished off a bottle of said things in one sitting. The texture of the brownies were also harder than I thought, even with the somewhat ‘frozen’ choco ganache.

BAE-RYLS PREMIUM BUTTERSCOTCH COOKIES

Bought the item(s) from/through: Shopee

Personal ratings: * * *

The cookies itself were crunchy and already sweet which was good but when mixed with the choco ganache, it became a tad too sweet for my liking. But many people seems to like them just the same so it depends on your taste buds I guess.

BLICIOUS PREMIUM COOKIES: NOTTYELLA DOUGHNUT

Bought the item(s) from/through: Shopee

Personal ratings: * * *

The Raya like cookies does look as pretty as in its pictures but for some reason the actual cookies were a bit too hard to munch on. Maybe I got the ‘burned out’ batch or something but the choco bits on top of said cookies does make up for the hard texture.

BLICIOUS BOOGIE WOOGIE & BILLY JEANS COOKIES

Bought item(s) from/through: Shopee

Personal ratings: * * * ½

Products from the same bakers as the previous cookies, I give extra points for their creativity in naming these cookies. And both variations were pretty solid tasting as well, although surprisingly I seemed to prefer the choco version rather than the peanut butter one since the latter ‘ganache’ has this clumpy texture that in the end tasted too ‘peanut butterly’ (if that was possible).

LYLEEZ’S CAKES: CADBURY BROWNIIES BOWL

Bought item(s) from /through: FoodPanda

Personal ratings: * * *

Not gonna lie; the word ‘Cadbury’ attracted me to buy this locally produce product. And although I think that the actual brownies were pretty moist, the ganache however were not as much as I hoped it would be. Still, it was already sweet tasting without that much of ganache so imagine if it did.

NIMS THE BEST CRISPY CHOCO TUB

Bought item(s) from/through: GrabFood

Personal ratings: * * * *

I actually saw this product being promoted a number of times online but it was when I finally saw it being sold locally that I’ve decided to try them out (and since I’m oddly not a big fan of Coco Crunch). I must say that it exceeded my (initially low) expectations as the Coco Crunch were in tiny sizes and the choco ganache were evenly spread.

LOKAL MUNCHIES CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

Bought the item(s) from/through: Shopee

Personal ratings: * * * ½

I’ve actually bought two flavours and thought that both were quite similar tasting except for the slightly stronger caffeine taste within the Mocha flavour (which should be obvious why). The cookies were crunchy but it sticks to my teeth for some reason and the ganache was just your typical overly sweet tasting sauce.

BABY VISCOFF MINI PRETZELS

Bought the item(s) from/through: Shopee

Personal ratings: * * * *

It was a shame that I didn’t just go ahead and buy the ‘daddy’ version of this product because as it turns out, I absolutely loved the salty (pretzels) plus choco ganache combo. The pretzels also stayed crunchy even after a long period of storage which was impressive.

NISSRINA CHOC FERRERO & DARK CHOC MOONCAKES

Bought the item(s)) from/through: Shopee

Personal ratings: * * * *

I have tried chocolate flavoured mooncakes before but these were the winners in my books. You could taste the chocolate flavour while not being too sweet, which was great.  And the extra fillings were a great edition to the product as well.

CRY CRY SEDAP BY MELISSA ARMAN CUPCAKES

Bought the item(s) from/through: Morefun

Personal ratings: * * * *

Now these babies were actually quite popular locally but ironically it took the MCO for me to finally be able to taste them. And what was more surprising was that despite their pretty moist and rich tasting chocolate flavours that I had, I actually thought that their non-choco cupcake (the Onde-onde) were the best among them all

Si Manja Fried Chicken

Since I have some free time right now, I might as well squeeze in this review. So initially me and my husband wasn't exactly planning on going to this place. In fact, this fast food eatery was almost always overlooked by both of us since there're many other more popular restaurants nearby. But since we were roaming the Fajar Complex area during lunchtime, such places were obviously crowded with customers. So since this place looks available, we decided to finally try them out that day (they're located right in front of Secret Recipe).

If you loved munching on smaller sized fried chicken wings, then this is definitely the place for you. Their chickens are similar to that of Pizza Hut's fried chickens, but with slightly more choices in terms of sauces. We got greedy and tried out their Honey Mustard and Soy Garlic chicken box sets (plus some Nasi Kuning set for my husband since he was really famished) and the portions that came out blew us away. Needless to say, if you're not a big eater than it's best to stick to just one choice. Both chickens were pretty tasty and crispy but my personal favourite was definitely their Honey Mustard since it was savoury and not as overly sweet as the other one.

Nasi Lemak Bamboo Bandar Indah (Sandakan FoodieVenture #6)

As I've mentioned in my previous post, my husband immediately recognises this eatery as soon as he saw it while he was 'town hopping' with my dad during their Sandakan trip a month ago (because Sandakan is famous for having a lot of thriving town areas) at Bandar Indah (on the same row as an Adidas store and a  BSN branch). My dad however never try out the place yet so they decided to give this KK originated franchise a go.

According to my husband, the choices of food doesn't differ much from their KK branches (well, it was kind of obvious since its a franchise after all) so it makes it easier for him to choose what to eat. He ordered his favourite Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng, together with a side order of Terung Sambal and everything were as savoury and yummy as their KK counterparts. Here's to hoping that they will also open a branch in Tawau in the future.. fingers crossed.

Outway Vacay: The Pavilion Hotel Sandakan

I think that my food & travel blogging habits has rubbed off on my husband, as evident in his trip to Sandakan sometime last month sans moi. He was actually there with my dad for a short business trip and I was surprised that he'd taken some pics of his hotel (a little out of angle pics but still...) and even of a familiar eatery while he was there (more on the eatery later). And no, I did not tell him to do so so I felt somewhat proud that he did.

Since I'm not exactly there, I can't give any detailed description of the accommodation. But from what my husband had 'reported', it was a very pleasant hotel. It was my dad who'd frequented the hotel and it was a good 3 star like place albeit a bit dated in terms of decor and slightly under-maintained. Price range were also pretty reasonable and affordable, what with the free breakfasts and ample parkings around. And even though they're located at Bandar Labuk Jaya (as opposed to the other more popular and lively towns) there are still plenty of shops nearby so at least you won't be left hanging at a secluded area. Both my hubby and dad seems to be satisfied with the hotel so it's all good I guess.

Type - Superior Twin Room

Room - 4/5 (long term maintenance is important - something the hotel should take note on)

Price - 4/5 (very affordable)

Service - 4/5 (courteous staff according to my hubby)

Decor - 3/5 (a bit dated)

Facilities - 4/5 (again, a bit dated)

Location - 4/5 (at least it is nearer to the airport)
