Ocean 36 (KK FoodieVenture #183)

Ok I never thought that I would say this (nor did I thought that it would be possible) but me and my husband had gotten lost trying to find this locally viral restaurant. And we even use Waze and all! So do take note my fellow foodies that if you are using Waze to go there, they did not actually pinned the right spot of said restaurant. Rather, you'll end up at another commercial area next to it, which itself is nowhere near the exact location. We had to ask the locals (yes, emphasising on the S) to finally be able to figure out the place which was at WK Commercial Centre, Penampang. Granted, we were driving on a rainy night so that is also another visual disadvantage on our part.

But little old me was quite impressed with the internal decor of the restaurant, when we finally arrived of course. True to all of those viral posts that I've seen, the place were decked out with blue lighted under the sea themed aquariums, which me and my husband found very interesting (especially the eel like fishes). Servers were also very friendly and welcoming which was nice. Their menu were mostly fusion Western so we'd ordered their Sambal Fried Rice, Grilled Salmon Steak with your choice of sides and some Garlic Breads. Needless to say, the night turned out well as the food were pretty tasty. I loved my salmon as it was fresh and nicely seasoned. The  expensive price that I've paid for it was definitely worth it. Oh and I do apologise beforehand for the blueish pictures below since I've taken them using my not-so-smartphone outdated camera.

Vanilla Crepe City Mall (KK FoodieVenture #182)

Well well.. I never knew that this crepe cake outlet is actually from a franchise that's originated in the Peninsular Malaysia when I first laid my eyes on them. Heck, they were even named the Largest Mille Crepe chain by the Malaysia Book of Records (yes, I have this habit of 'researching' before actuallly stepping foot inside any intended place). So with that impressive achievement, how can I not try them out right?

They actually opened 3 outlets in KK but the one that we've been to is the City Mall one (on the ground floor of said mall, facing the CCK Local supermarket). There was a promo of sorts going on during our visit, where if you buy 2 cakes, the 3rd one will be given at half price. So we picked out their La Milo, Midnight Choc and Choco Peanut flavours and all 3 were moist and not overly sweet. But for some reason I thought that the cakes doesn't differ much from each other when it comes to taste. Then again, it might just be my taste bud (I mean, I did bought an all choco themed cakes so that might be the reason as well) so do try them out for yourselves to see.

Kawan Kawan Food Centre EG Mall (KK FoodieVenture #181)

So the highlight of my most recent journey to KK has got to be to EG Mall, Inanam particularly its Kawan Kawan Food Centre at the ground floor level of said mall (it's pretty hard to miss since it is the first thing that you will see upon entry). Me and my husband were very impressed with the overall layout and huge spacing of the place. I mean, imagine an (almost) entire floor dedicated to food & beverages! Choices for food and drinks were abundant, making both of us spoilt for choice.

After looking around the area a couple of times (and making other people look at us 'suspiciously') we settled on several things. My husband went to the larger HK Seafood Restaurant stall for some Nasi Campur (aka Chap Fan - I refuse to name it Economy Rice because sometimes the price is nothing but 'economy'. But don't worry, the ones there were still pretty affordable) because he was hungrier than me. I on the other hand, am not interested in heavy duty food and decided to go to the Pak Mund Laksa stall instead and ordered some Asam Fishballs. It has a Penang style laksa soup which was nice and not too spicy. After that, I went to Teahee and ordered for myself a Lychee Peach Tea just because I saw them on our way in. Pretty refreshing I might add. But what I was most looking forward to try was the croquettes from the Tokyo Korokke stall. I have never in my life tried croquettes (much less a Japanese version) before so it was both an interesting and delicious experience. I've tried their Veggie and Curry Cheese variety and both were very yummy, with the former being my fave (only because the curry one tasted exactly like a currypuff).

Tomyam House 1Borneo (Kk FoodieVenture #180)

Not to be confused with a local restaurant with the same name (and as far as I know, they're not related in any way), me and my husband were both pretty famished when we made our way to the lower ground floor of 1Borneo Hypermall and came upon this eatery. Yes, we pretty much judged the eatery by its crowd (because to our logic, the place must've done something right to gain such a number of patrons) and give their large selection of pre-cooked dishes a try. One thing that impresses me was that they do have Gon Lo Mien as one of their selections, as I rarely see such a thing. And the taste of said dish was not bad either. My husband was also pretty pleased with his Nasi Campur aka Chap Fan so all in all I'm glad that we made the right choice for choosing the place (meh, I'm pretty sure that we just got lucky instead)

QCC Baked Centre Point (KK FoodieVenture #179)

Ok so I'm back with some more KK reviews after I got distracted with work (again). This baked goods kiosk has caught my eyes since last year but this time around I was determined to give them a try. Although they do have other branches elsewhere, the one that I've been to is located on the ground floor level of Centre Point shopping mall, right in front of Grace One Sports store and not that far off from the main entrance area.

Their assortment of cookies does looked enticing but since I'm more of a tart fan, I went with their Chocolate Tarts and Brownies Tarts instead. They are available in medium or large sizes (and if you buy them in sets, the 'cheaper' it gets - wow I actually rhyme!) but since I'm not that confident in finishing the large ones by myself since my husband was disinterested in having any, I chose the smaller but still appealing looking ones. Both tarts were solidly crusted and not overly sweet but my fave has got to be the chocolate variety, as it also tasted pretty rich. Will give their other pastries a go next time I happen to walk by the area again.
