Ice Idea Dessert Cafe

Barely minutes after finishing my lunch at Mr & Mrs Spicy, I took a few steps on the same block (in the middle section of the Kubota Sentral commercial area) and came across this dessert cafe. My tongue suddenly wanted something cool to neutralized the semi hot (and by that I mean heat, not spicy) dish that I just had. So without much of a thought, I found myself already seating inside the cafe.

I took a peek at another solo patron right in front of my table and deducted that since she was having a small sized ice shaved dessert and it was rather err.. small, I decided to go for the larger version of the Chocolate Snow Ice + Choco Grains + Peanuts, thinking that it might not have that much of a difference in terms of size. But lo and behold, my ice dessert came as if it was going to be eating by at least 2 people (and do not let the pics below fooled you). I kid you not when I said that a trio of secondary school kids right next to me actually chuckled when they realized my predicament. Thankfully my stomach was working in full capacity that day and I had miraculously finished the whole thing. Even the next table kids were looking pretty impressed in the end. So the moral of the story is... do not underestimate a snow ice dessert I guess. 😅

Mr and Mrs Spicy

Yes, I know.. I really like hanging out within the Kubota Sentral commercial area as of late since new eateries seems to be popping up like mushrooms all over said area. But although this eatery is not exactly new to the area, their name did intrigued me (and coincidentally they're right beside another Malay eatery called Peddasss - which compliments their own name.. Peddasss and Spicy, get it?) 😅

Anyway I was curious as to what the eatery has to offer so I did ventured into the place for a solo lunch quite recently and discovered that they specializes in a variety of soupy dishes, which was not that common for a local Chinese establishment. I was in the mood for some Penang Asam Laksa and I must say that I really liked it. The dish was not overly sour or spicy and you could even taste the Ikan Kembung (Indian Mackerel fish) bits (I presumed) in the broth which was really nice. Will be coming back to try some more soupy dishes if I'm in the mood for them in the future.

** Current status - Has been closed and is now a new eatery called That's Chicken (as of April 2023)

Bask Bear Coffee Garden City

Although I'm familiar with this brand thanks to my frequent travels to KK, it took them to opened a branch here in Tawau for me to finally gave them a try. Plus their very strategic placement (right beside the main roundabout leading up to Bataras Hypermarket - on the ground floor of a newly opened commercial building called Garden City) left me with no other 'choice' but to visit them 😉

The franchise might initially be a coffee place but I'm more of a fan of their food rather than their drinks. So far I've bought their Hash Brown Chicken Slice Toast and Double Down Hash Brown Toast and to me both were simply delicious. The muffins were also pretty good (both Double Choc Muffin and Banana Choco Chip Muffin were firm and appropriately sweetened, just the way I preferred them) but the same can't be said about their drinks. I've tried their Aren Chocolate Cheese Foam and I kid you not when I say that I almost spit out my first sip because it was one of the sweetest drinks that I've ever tasted. I'm all for the strong chocolate taste but unfortunately the aren aka palm sugar was just as strong if not more, that almost overwhelmed the entire drink. Might be trying their other drinks in the future to see if there's any difference in the level of sweetness.

LFC Lim Fried Chicken Perdana Jaya

Finally! A little break from what seems to be a neverending workload at work. Mind you, sometimes I think that my boss was just trying to keep me away from my computer with these so-called 'work'. Anyway, enough of my mini ranting and lets get on with the show yes?

I never knew that this eatery was part of a well-known franchise from Peninsula Malaysia until I googled them after I went to their branch in Perdana Jaya Commercial Centre, the single row of shops right at the backside of Bataras Hypermarket (they also have another branch recently opened at Fajar Complex). Being a football fanatic and a Liverpool diehard fan, my hubby seriously thought that the place was going to be an eatery dedicated to his favorite team ala Chiffonade but he was sorely disappointed 😅 Nevertheless we tried their signature dishes (mainly their LFC Nasi Lemak Drumstick and LFC Drumstick Rice with Egg & Vege) and both were just okay in my opinion. But I was glad that their fried chickens were thoroughly cooked and succulent despite lacking in terms of taste. That goes the same for their vegetable dish but what they're maybe lacking in their main food, they made up in their sambal and curry gravy as both were really good. Plus I also like their Brown Sugar Konjac Red Dates Tea as it was yummy and refreshing.
