Dubai Beriyani Hub

My dad is an Indian-Arabic food enthusiast so obviously when he saw this new establishment being open not far from his office at Fajar Complex (they’re next to the Digi Centre), he wasted not time in bringing us along to sample their menu. And despite their Middle Eastern name, I’m sorry to tell you guys that the food is mainly geared towards the Indian (and fusion?) side of things. But at least they’re staying true to their theme and served their customers some ‘refreshments’ before our meals arrive (and not to mention dressing the entire female staff in black, loose fitting jubbah mind you).

My mom decided to try out their Nasi Beriyani Ayam while I had their Murtabak Ayam. Rather surprisingly, my dad suddenly decided to forgo his usual preferences and ordered their Fried Prawn Chop instead. All dishes were above average in taste but nothing too outstanding I’m afraid. Oh and it seems that their menu is still in the ‘work-in-progress’ stage judging from the lack of variety present (well, at least I hope it is).

Neela Cafe

Since me and my partner were running some errands within the Fajar Complex area one day, we decided to drop by this cafe for lunch (which was located within the same row as the Etiqa Takaful insurance office). Their menu consists of your favourite local dishes and after going through them for awhile, we decided to try out their Nasi Ayam and Nasi Ayam Sambal. What I like about my dish (the former) was that they used actual chicken rice instead of white rice (as been done by numerous other Malay establishments despite the dish’s namesake) and it was yummy. My partner said that his meal was delicious as well although the sambal was on the spicier side. But maybe due to the lack of promotion as well as stiff competition from eateries nearby, their customers seems to be few and far between so hopefully that will improve in the future.

** Current status – Still in operation (as of Feb 2019)

*This is actually a view of the cafe's backside area (as I totally forgot to take a pic of their front view)

Season

Here’s another (short) entry that I feel I need to post before I conveniently forgot to do so again (as this was taken sometime last year). I’ve actually been to this laid back eatery twice (located at the CTV Junction shop lot, near to Sabah Chinese High School) and they have a fair share of Chinese restaurant-like food to choose from. Among the food that we’ve tried out were the items posted below (sorry folks, I can’t seem to recall the specific names of each dishes as my head is somewhere else right now). But I do remember liking the Tom Yam Fried Rice (correct me if I’m wrong) while my mom loves their Sweet & Sour Fish Rice (I think). Both dishes were well-seasoned (pun intended) and scrumptious so I’ll probably be dropping by again in the future. It is also said that their drinks were superbly tasting but so far I haven't try them out yet.

** Current status – Still in operation & has moved to Wukka Cafe spot (as of April 2024)

Coffeelicious Cafe

My apologizes y’all for being way too busy with work these days that I did not have time to update this blog. So before I run along and continue on with my piling work (sigh…), here’s a quick review of the Coffeelicious CafĂ© located on the far end of the 2nd floor of Eastern Plaza. There was this hype surrounding the place in the local social media scene sometime last year (or should I say ‘self-hyped’?) but I have to say that I was somewhat let down by my personal experience dining there. The Nasi Lalap Kukus Mamakna (as they’d named it) that me and my partner both had were mediocre and dry tasting; definitely not worth the above average price that we’ve paid. The chocolate ice blended drink that I also had did not fair any better as the milky taste had completely overpowered the supposed chocolate flavour (which is something that I’m not too fond of). But then again, other customers have express their liking towards their food so why not try them for yourselves right?

** Current status – Has moved to the Kubota Sentral area & now goes by the name Sotong Bakar (as of Jan 2020)
