Twenty Five Western Dessert

Disclaimer: The following visit was done way before the Movement Control Order (MCO) started so rest assured that I didn’t break any rules as I’m currently doing my part by staying put at home. And as far as I know, the eatery was still open for business before the MCO.      

I actually have something in mind for my annual Hari Raya post but it will also depends on my free time (since I’m back at work now) and whether my laziness will overpower me once again (which happens a lot these days). So for now, I present to you yet another eatery that I’ve visited before the CMCO. Secludedly located within the Jalan Sim Hua Seng, the tiny shop is directly in front of a Silverstone tyre shop.

I remembered that it was still around brunch time when my partner and I dropped by. I like the fact that the mother-daughter owners warmly greeted us even though they might not be 100% ready for business and gave us a menu to browse through as they’re preparing themselves. And judging from their menu, their food really does consist of ‘western+dessert’. We were quite impressed with their selection of cool desserts but they also have a section of noodles and western dishes for you to choose from. Both of us already had a heavy breakfast before stopping by the place (initially for something light) but I just can’t resist trying out their lovely looking Chicken Chop. It was juicy and tender (since I don’t often have it with a slice of pineapple and mind you… it goes really well together). My partner was not too keen on eating anything heavy again so he decided upon their Waffle Cone with Ice Cream dessert and some homemade coleslaw to munch on. Other than that, they also have off-menu daily specials (the Chicken Nasi Lemak and Curry Fish Balls) that seem to be very popular among in-the-know customers.  

Even though I personally loved the family run shop, do take note that the shop is literally run by both the mother & daughter team only so high patience is definitely required should you decided to dine in. Because from what we’ve seen while we were there, they were quite frantic in trying to manage all of the dine-in and tapau orders that kept pouring in (since they’re also available through the Morefun apps).

Restoran #Tawau Dihatiku

Despite the Sabah government following suit in the implementation of Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), many businesses (particularly within the food industry) has decided to continue with the current situation of not opening their dining area for the public just yet (which is understandable considering the amount of work to sanitized the place regularly and the stable but ongoing Covid 19 numbers). So in the meantime, I’ll be posting more about my previous experiences with these eateries that I've been to before okay?

Now I don’t know what is it about this particular shop lot but it has seen more renters come and gone in the span of 5 years or so than me buying new clothes (sad but true) – several of which you can find within my blog. It’s definitely odd since the location is quite central (they’re within the Fajar Complex area, on the same row as the main Digi branch). Nevertheless, me and my parents had been there a couple of times and their food was generally good. They mostly provide cook-to-order local and seafood dishes with affordable prices. But I actually had forgotten to take pictures of most of the dishes that we had (I blame my impatient tummy for that) except for the Singapore Fried Meehoon, Sweet & Sour Fish Rice and Mixed Vegetables below. I remembered them being tasty and well seasoned but no better than the other competition within the same area.

Kedai Kopi D'Sup Hao Liao

Now despite what you may think when you read the name of this place; no… it is not a Chinese eatery. But they do have various types of soup based dishes so at least they did stay partly true to their name I guess. They are located inside the main Sabindo town area (where I admit that I rarely ventured into these days), right in front of the Grace Plaza and not that far off from the Avon Cosmetics local branch. And it was my partner who’d brought me there since he knows the owner through work. Other than the assortment of soups (such as Sup Tulang, Sup Daging, Soto and what not) their menu also consists of typical Malay cuisines so I decided to try their Nasi Goreng Kampung instead since I was rather hungry during said time. I kid you not when I say that barely 5 minutes later, my dish was ready to be served and it was pretty good; kind of reminded me of a warung type of cooking. I like that they sprinkled the fried anchovies on top of the dish instead of stir-frying them with the rice. My partner was in the mood for some Gado-Gado and Sup Paha Ayam. I did take a sip at the latter and while it was okay, it was also a tad too salty for my liking. All in all, it might be a small eatery but it is still worth to check them out should who’re in town.

Free Time

Man… this long MCO sure makes little old me lazier than usual. I’ve been lounging way too much these days as my body got the hang of this whole stay-at-home situation. So here I am trying to at least attempt to exercise my brain a bit before the MCO ends (which might happen sooner than later).

Unlike most of the states in Malaysia, Sabah has decided to be a brat and not to implement the new conditional MCO (also known as CMCO) ruling. So I’m giving you guys a review of the eateries that I’ve previously visited (yet again). This family owned and ran café has been occupying the same spot previously filled by MyCafe for quite sometime now (located within the Taipan Commercial Center) and has a pretty extensive menu to boot. Me and my mom has been to the café quite a few times and I can honestly say that their food were very commendable. We’ve tried their (I might get the dishes wrong since it’s been awhile so my apologies for that) Free Time Chicken Sauce Rice, Sambal Fried Rice, Salted Egg Chicken Fried Rice, Blackbean Chicken with Bitter Gourd Rice and their Curry Mixed Vegetables. The most memorable of them all to me has got to be their Salted Egg Chicken Fried Rice since I prefer a drier version of said dish, as well as the nice blend of both sweet and salty taste from its ingredients. Definitely one of me and my mom's favourite places to grab some early dinner.
