If you ask me, I would say that I'm a fan of most Indonesian cuisines (sans the in famous bakso - I'm sorry but err.. It's still a no for me). So I was somewhat eager to try this small Javanese styled cooking eatery the moment I noticed them a few weeks back. 

A similar story to that of the corner lot at 1Arena commercial area (do check out several of my previous posts of said place), this particular shop has seen various tenants coming and going in a short span of a few years. And again, it is not because the place is not strategically located (they're right in front of Fajar Complex's Secret Recipe branch - most recently occupied by Si Manja Fried Chicken before the change of tenants yet again); I guess it was mainly because of the stiff competitors nearby. But I do hope that this one will be able to stay in business a bit longer as me and my husband actually liked their food. We had their Nasi Goreng Cina, Bakso Jawa Pak Mizi (that was all my hubby suddenly wanting to be 'adventurous' which I want no part of 🙄), Nasi Ikan Basong Sup Sayur Asem and their Telur Asem Jawa Pedas. All were lovely, with my personal favourite being (surprisingly) the latter (yup, I'm not really a fan of eggs either). The dish was simple enough but with just the right amount of seasonings and spices.

Yu Jia's Eatery

My mom and I has been eyeing this eatery for awhile actually especially when we were dining at Acteasan (they're right in front of the latter, and next to Taro Yogurt). Hence we were pretty determined to try them out recently, as we made our way into the Kubota Sentral Commercial area as per usual (I mean, I'm practically there almost every weekend with my mom so it's literally my second home by now 😅). 

Funnily enough, both me and my mom were pretty 'cautious' upon entering the place as we had no idea what their menu would be like (yes, we did check out their promo pics and banner before stepping into the eatery but still...) and the fact that my mom prefers rice meals over anything else. But I was somewhat relieved that they did have some rice choices within their menu (albeit very limited as the place mainly centers their dishes over quality fishes and seafood). My mom ordered their Sesame Sauce Chicken Rice while I was more curious about their Soy Sauce Noodles with Karatang Fillet. Needless to say, I'm satisfied with my dish, especially the delicious well seasoned springy noodles. My mom was happy too since she loves Chinese styled cooking no matter where she dines.

Corner Cafe

After revamping and renaming the previously Chinese 'kedai kopi' to what it is now, this particular eatery has attracted new generation of patrons to visit their place. One could say that it is because of their strategic location (which was right at the corner lot of shops within Fajar Complex, on the same row as Wangi Chicken Rice and right in front of King Park Hotel) but customers mostly flocked to the place because of this one particular bakso stall. You see, one of the vendors that had rented a place there (fyi, the restaurant mainly rented out stalls and even their main kitchen to various vendors while only maintaining the drinks section) has already had a huge fan base before this and naturally when they decided to moved their business from a tiny spot at 1Homeware to a much bigger space, their fans followed suit. But don't worry, they do have other stalls and food to try out like we did (since both me and my husband are not bakso lovers as well). 

We tried out the main kitchen (run by Nur Az Cafe) Maggi Ketam and Nasi Goreng Ayam Telur Masin and both were tasty, albeit the former's crab was not that fresh according to my husband. My hubby was also in the mood for some Beef Burger from another stall and he thought that it was okay at best. There's room for improvement in terms of food but I do like their drinks though, pretty satisfying me think.

Nasi Lemak Bamboo 1Arena

Yes, my favourite nasi lemak place in KK has finally opened a branch here in good old Tawau, specifically at 1Arena Commercial Centre at Jalan Chong Thien Vun (and if you had read my previous posts, they're located at that same 'far end lot near Bataras Hypermarket' - where multiple shops seems to be coming and going). 

I had actually dropped by the eatery with my husband after I was sure that the 'opening-frenzied crowd' has dispersed (you know what I mean; the crowd of people that swarms a newly opened place like there's no tomorrow). So I was glad that the dish that I was most curious about (the Nasi Goreng Lemak Set) is available at that time. Pretty delicious and satisfying too I might add. My partner had gone for the usuals; the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng and he commented that it tasted just like the ones in KK, which is good to know.
