Initially planning on a staycation of sorts during the
recent National Day holidays, I jumped at my partner’s suggestion
to go to KK instead to unwind. Even though it was just a (very) short stay,
we’d managed to squeeze in some new eateries to try this time around (more on
that on my later posts). But first… let us talk about the hotel that we’ve stayed
in. The reason why we chose this place was because of the very
reasonable pricing (as we opted for a no frills accommodation because we’re on
a budget) and its very close proximity to the famous Gaya Street markets (the hotel is
literally just around the corner from them at Jalan Pantai).
Check in went on pretty smoothly and I was surprised at the
low deposit requested (only RM30 per room – but then again, it is a relatively
small establishment). And since I’ve read some reviews beforehand, I was amused to
finally see for myself the sliding door that said to be shared by the separated toilet and
showers. A creative way to reduce space in my opinion since the room itself has
limited spacing. But I do find the room to be comfortable and very clean during my
stay. Plus we did get a room with a view of the front of the hotel (overlooking the main road and the Horizon Hotel) so we were very happy
with that. The housekeeping staff was also very friendly and accommodating,
especially when we found out that there was no TV remote inside the room (and they had to go around looking for one).
But a couple of things that I needed to highlight about the
hotel (should you’re looking forward to these things) though. Firstly, the hot
water for their showers is actually available although it does take a long time
(and I mean, a really long time) to
warm up. They also did not provide any basic toiletries at all apart from a shower
gel dispenser inside the showers and no free bottled drinking water was given either
(but they do have a water dispenser on every floor & a jug inside the
room for your convenience). Another thing, if you’re hoping to just lazed
around on your bed while watching TV then I’m sorry to say that they only have
MyFreeview channels available (yup, that new government based digital channels
being promoted like crazy right now).
Overall…
Type – Twin
Room – 4/5 (I’m
happy with the room that we’d gotten)
Price – 4/5 (pretty
value for money especially when booking online)
Service – 3/5 (good although some smiles from the receptionist can make the whole experience even better)
Décor – 4/5 (they
have refurbished their hotel a few years back so everything still looks good)
Facilities – 3/5
(again, it’s a no frills boutique hotel so you get what you’ve paid for)
Location – 4/5 (they’re
also within walking distance to Wisma Merdeka & Suria Sabah mall)
**Below are pics of their lobby area (including an adjoining door leading to Restoran Thien Thien next door...)
... and these are pics of their room & the view that we'd gotten
